We’re excited to share a new product with you this week, the Outdoor Lounge Kit.  In designing this new chair kit, we want to provide a simple way for anyone to have a hand in making their own furniture… without the need to know all the ins and outs of being an expert craftsman. With sustainable + recyclable materials like American steel, we have cultivated a brand and business that seeks to "help" you say "I made it".   

With the advent of self-checkout at local grocers we see the "passing on the work" to the consumer for the sake of efficiency and cost. There’s an inverse to this though.  We've done the research on the benefits of making it yourself and have seen third party research demonstrating both physical and mental benefits; the list is long and empowering. Daily life once involved lots of physical labor, creative problem solving, moving around in the sun, and laser focused on the task at hand.  Now we sit in blue-lit environments where the work never ends long after the work day does. Our minds are always ON and information flow never ends.    

As humans, we are born to create and innovate and we're really good at it - and those feels are never more present than at home, I mean just look at Home Depot on the weekends!  Your home demands your creative attention, whether in the living, dining, bedroom or outdoor spaces. The things that surround us daily need a story, need time and attention to truly make our own. 

This reminds me of an old joke about two wolves, a father and a son sitting at the top of a hill overlooking a valley of sheep. The son quickly turns to the father and says, "let's run down there and get us one of those sheep!" The father slowly turns to the son and says, "no son, let's WALK down there and get us ALL them sheep."

Perhaps you've heard this in one or another variation, yet the point is clear. Sometimes it's important to slow it down, take our time and do it right.  It's easy to run out and get the first cheap table you find at Ikea, we've all done it, and it becomes just as easy to toss it out. OR you can take your time designing and making something just as you envisioned. The results are so rewarding you'll thank us later.  

So with that, after a long tangent, we want to introduce to you the ultimate build experience, The Outdoor Lounge.  

The initial idea was to create a furniture and design lover's chair with 3 goals:

• A build experience that could get you outside with friends and family. 
• A chair that's easy on the eyes and the pocket. 
• The ultimate post-build satisfaction.

The design is simple; hand welded, recycled and American-milled steel bring this sturdy base together. Our solid, single steel backrest is HEAVY and a marvel to look at:

• 3/16" of solid steel; laser cut and bent twice.
• Provides 80.5 degrees of lean to it, a solid recline and just the right amount of give. The kind of lounge that invites you to stay a while. 
• Primed with Zinc Oxide(anti-corrosive) and Finished in one of our 4 new, and classic Black Super, Durable finishes. 

When making something of your own, most of our customers have said that the lowest hanging fruit is sourcing, cutting, sanding and finishing dimensional lumber. With a quick trip to the hardware store, you can select your own lumber and they'll even do the cuts for you if you don't presently own a circular/table saw. Winning! With that in mind we created a design specifically for easily sourced materials and a simple cut list for stress free, weekend build. With wood cost for this build well under $100 and recycled steel that can last a lifetime, we're positive this will provide you with a great experience, a great story and most importantly, community.
